Method
Step 1:
- I start by mixing the warm water, yeast, and sugar in a bowl or zip-top bag. I let it sit for about 5–10 minutes until the mixture becomes foamy, which means the yeast is active.

Step 2:
- Next, I add the flour, salt, and oil to the yeast mixture. I mix everything together until a soft and slightly sticky dough forms.

Step 3:
- I knead the dough for about 5–7 minutes until it becomes smooth and elastic. When I’m outdoors, I often knead the dough inside the bag to keep things cleaner.

Step 4:
- Then I leave the dough in a warm place for about 30–60 minutes so it can rise. The dough should roughly double in size during this time.

Step 5:
- After rising, I gently press the dough down and divide it into small portions. I flatten each portion into a round disc so it cooks evenly.

Step 6:
- I heat a skillet or griddle over medium heat and add a little oil or butter. I cook each piece of dough for about 3–5 minutes per side until it becomes golden brown.

Step 7:
- For the honey butter, I mix the softened butter, honey, and a pinch of salt in a small bowl until smooth. I spread it over the warm bread before serving.

Notes
- I always cook this bread over medium heat instead of high heat, because high flames can burn the outside before the inside cooks.
- This bread works great on a skillet, griddle, or Dutch oven, depending on what equipment I have available.
- If I don’t have yeast while camping, I sometimes replace it with baking powder to make a quick flatbread version.
