Method
Step 1
- In a medium mixing bowl, add mayonnaise and sour cream. Whisk together until completely smooth and creamy.

Step 2
- Slowly pour in the buttermilk while whisking continuously. Add gradually to control thickness. Stop when desired consistency is reached.

Step 3
- Add dried dill, parsley, chives, garlic powder, onion powder, salt, pepper, sugar (if using), and vinegar (if using). Whisk thoroughly until evenly combined.

Step 4
- Taste the dressing and adjust seasoning if needed. Add a splash more buttermilk if thinner consistency is desired.

Step 5
- Transfer to an airtight container and refrigerate for at least 30 minutes to allow flavors to develop. Stir before serving.

Notes
- For thicker dip-style ranch, reduce buttermilk slightly.
- For a thinner salad dressing, add extra buttermilk one tablespoon at a time.
- Store in an airtight container in the refrigerator for up to 5–7 days.
- Do not freeze, as texture may separate.
- Flavor improves after resting overnight.
